Investigation of the condition of a wood-based composite. Wood–cement composites are widely used in many countries for both interior and exterior applications due to their mechanical properties suitable for building materials (e.g., roofing, cladding, fencing, and flooring) and their acoustic properties, such as highway sound barriers. The main challenge in producing wood–cement composites is the incompatibility between cement and wood, since certain soluble chemicals in wood inhibit or stop cement hydration when exposed to an alkaline environment and diffuse into the cement paste, resulting in lower mechanical strength of wood–cement composites compared to pure cement [1].
